Morningstar Farms Veggie Dogs are Discontinued

It’s official, the entire line of Morningstar Farms Veggie Dogs, and Corn Dogs are no longer in existence.  I am oddly disappointed by this.  In reality I bought approximately 2 packages of these dogs a year and ate them on rare occasion.  However, when the craving for a “Hot Dog” hits there was no other possibility.  I’ve tried several other varieties and been hugely disappointed, usually scrambling to find a meal after considering what I cooked to be inedible.

Below is the response I received from the Kellogg’s Company explaining their reasoning behind the discontinuation.  However nicely they’ve packaged their response I also found this link which mentions a recall.  http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/EnforcementReports/ucm183504.htm The recall was conveniently left out of their response.  I wonder why?  If anyone has a suggestion for an alternate brand I would love to hear it.

I just wanted to mention my 3 beauties in the picture above.  They are all rescue dogs of some sort.  Casey, our Pit mix came from Long Island’s North Shore Animal League and is a big mush.  Shana our Shepard mix, and Rocki our baby girl come from homes that had unexpected surprises.  There’s a good chance they would have ended up in shelters if we hadn’t taken them in.  If you’re wondering, it’s not easy to get 3 dogs looking up in 1 picture!  Anyway, on to my email response from Kellogg’s:
Lin,

We know this answer may put us in the dog house, but we have discontinued our Morningstar Farms® Veggie Dog products including Morningstar Farms® America’s Original Veggie Dogs, Morningstar Farms® Corn Dogs, Morningstar Farms® Mini Corn Dogs, and Morningstar Farms® Corn Dogs Made with Natural Ingredients. We know we have lots of big fans of these products.

This situation was not a decision we made due to poor sales, but rather due to our inability to secure an appropriate manufacturing facility to produce them on an ongoing basis. Veggie dogs are not made using the same technology as our other products so we relied on another company to make them for us. It is difficult to make the choice to discontinue a product, as we know it is always someone’s favorite. Unfortunately, at this time we have no plans to reintroduce this product, nor do we have any remaining in our stock. Our apologies. We’re glad to hear some people are still able to purchase these yummy “dogs”. You should look at these stores, since our system no longer has store information.

We value your business and would love for you to try our Morningstar Farms® Veggie Italian Style Sausage. They are great for family grilling! Or if you prefer a hot dog, we suggest Worthington® Veja-Links® vegetarian hot dogs. (Worthington is part of the Morningstar Farms family). This is a canned product and is readily available at most natural food stores.

Thank you for contacting us. Please join us on Facebook, where we post the latest information about Morningstar Farms, including inspiring recipes and an occasional coupon!

I have only tried Tofu pups and found them to be pretty good. I am really not a huge morning star fan however like their black bean burger.

  1. I’ve never heard of Tofu Pups. Where can you find them? As for Morningstar I specifically liked the hot dogs and their italian sausage links.

  2. THEY’RE BACK! 🙂

  3. Hello There. I found your weblog using msn. This is an extremely
well written article. I will make sure to bookmark it and return to read more of your helpful
