Plastics aka Phthalates

I did a little research on plastics aka phthalates which for the most part got me nowhere.  There is research showing that they are both harmful and not harmful.  Some research suggests that these toxins are not found in plastic wraps and containers while others suggest they are.  I am always very weary of who is conducting a study and what results they are pushing for, therefore most likely swaying the responses in their favor.  Always  the skeptic, I can’t seem to help it.  I did find this one article from Good Housekeeping where they tested specific products and have shown the results for products based on the results.  I found it interesting.  Below are some of the results.  Below the results is the link to the article if interested.

The following items contained low levels of phthalates or PBA but the chemicals did not leach into food during microwave heating:

  1. Rubbermaid EasyFind Lids container
  2. Rubbermaid Premier container
  3. Glad Press’n Seal Multipurpose Sealing Wrap
  4. Glad Food Storage Bags*

*Tested with simulants but not food.  (I personally don’t understand this, aren’t we consuming food???)
